Oscar momentum builds for '12 Years A Slave'

Director Steve McQueen's epic 12 Years A Slave was five times a winner at yesterday's Film Independent Spirit Awards ceremony in a windblown tent on the beach in rainy Santa Monica.

The pre-Civil War drama took home the trophies for best feature, best director, best screenplay, best supporting female actor (Lupita Nyong'o) and best cinematography.

Matthew McConaughey was honored as the best male lead actor for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, while best female lead actor Cate Blanchett picked up yet another award for her work in Blue Jasmine.
