Wanted Fugitive Arrested in Police Standoff on Salt Lake's West Side

A man who police already wanted for questioning -- in a separate incident -- is in much more trouble now, after allegedly breaking into a west Salt Lake apartment Wednesday night, and then refusing to come out for about three hours.

Police Lt. Josh Scharman says Jerry Romero, 36, refused to leave the apartment -- near 4th South, 14th West -- until authorities launched tear gas inside.

People who were in the apartment escaped without injuries.  And the entire complex was evacuated, as a precaution.

Romero is expected to be charged with aggravated burglary.
