Bill to Name Highway in Honor of Slain Police Officer Advances

A BILL -- TO RENAME A RURAL STRETCH OF HIGHWAY, IN HONOR OF A UTAH COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICER KILLED THERE -- HAS BEEN APPROVED BY THE UTAH SENATE.

THE MEASURE WOULD RENAME STATE ROUTE 73 THE "CORY WRIDE MEMORIAL HIGHWAY."

THE BILL NOW MOVES TO THE HOUSE.

WRIDE WAS FATALLY SHOT -- IN HIS PATROL CAR, JANUARY 30TH -- WHILE PARKED ALONG THE HIGHWAY.

THE SUSPECTED TRIGGERMAN LATER DIED, FROM INJURIES IN A SHOOTOUT WITH POLICE.

THAT MAN'S 17-YEAR-OLD GIRLFRIEND IS NOW CHARGED WITH MURDER, AND SEVERAL OTHER FELONIES.

PROSECUTORS SAY SHE WAS THE DRIVER -- IN A MULTI-COUNTY, HIGH-SPEED CHASE -- AND AN ACTIVE PARTICIPANT.
