Google Fiber Could be Coming to Salt Lake

THE FIBER-OPTIC INTERNET NETWORK, GOOGLE FIBER, MAY BE COMING TO SALT LAKE.

MAYOR RALPH BECKER ANNOUNCED WEDNESDAY MORNING, THE CALIFORNIA-BASED COMPANY WILL CONDUCT A FEASIBILITY STUDY, TO DETERMINE WHETHER THE HIGH-SPEED NETWORK IS RIGHT FOR THE CITY.

SALT LAKE IS ONE OF NINE METROPOLITAN AREAS ACROSS THE COUNTRY THAT WILL BE EVALUATED OVER THE NEXT SIX TO NINE MONTHS.

OTHERS INCLUDE PORTLAND, PHOENIX AND SAN ANTONIO.

IF APPROVED, SALT LAKE WOULD BE THE SECOND UTAH COMMUNITY TO GET GOOGLE FIBER.

NEW CUSTOMERS ARE ALREADY BEING SIGNED UP FOR THE SERVICE, IN PROVO.

THE COMPANY WILL CONDUCT TOPOGRAPHY AND HOUSING-DENSITY STUDIES, TO DETERMINE WHICH CITIES ARE THE BEST FIT.
