One Woman Killed in Multi-Vehicle Accident on I-84

A MULTI-VEHICLE ACCIDENT -- ON INTERSTATE 84, NEAR TAGGART --CLAIMED THE LIFE OF ONE DRIVER... AND FORCED THE FREEWAY'S WESTBOUND LANES TO BE CLOSED.

UTAH HIGHWAY PATROL SARGEANT TODD ROYCE SAYS THE CHAIN-REACTION ACCIDENT BEGAN, WHEN A WOMAN -- DRIVING A PICKUP -- HIT A PATCH OF ICE, ABOUT 8:20 FRIDAY MORNING.

POLICE SAY SHE WAS KILLED, WHEN SHE WAS STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE, AFTER GETTING OUT OF HER TRUCK.

THAT ACCIDENT CAUSED THE PILE-UP, WHICH EVENTUALLY INVOLVED THREE SEMITRUCKS AND 11 SMALLER VEHICLES.

THE ONLY OTHER INJURY WAS TO A SECOND WOMAN, WHO WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL, WITH NON-LIFE THREATENING INJURIES.

THE HIGHWAY PATROL WAS HOPING TO REOPEN WESTBOUND I-84, EARLY FRIDAY AFTERNOON.
