UNIFIED POLICE ARE CONTINUING THEIR SEARCH, FOR A CAR DRIVER WHO -- THEY SAY -- ATTEMPTED TO RUN OVER AN OFFICER, FORCING HIM TO JUMP OVER THE HOOD OF HIS OWN SQUAD CAR, TO AVOID INJURY.

JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT, MONDAY MORNING, AUTHORITIES STOPPED THE DRIVER OF A JEEP, THAT HAD BEEN REPORTED STOLEN.

WHEN A PASSENGER, IN THE SUSPECT VEHICLE, JUMPED OUT... THE OFFICER WENT AFTER HIM... AND THE DRIVER FLED.

BUT, AUTHORITIES SAY, HE THEN TURNED AROUND... AND ATTEMPTED TO RUN THE OFFICER OVER.

THE POLICEMAN AVOIDED INJURY, BY JUMPING OVER THE HOOD OF HIS VEHICLE.

THE STOLEN JEEP WAS LATER RECOVERED -- ON STATE STREET, NEAR 69TH SOUTH -- BUT THE DRIVER IS STILL ON THE RUN.

POLICE RELEASED THE PASSENGER AFTER QUESTIONING HIM.
