Salt Lake Construction Site Destroyed in Four-Alarm Blaze

SALT LAKE FIRE INVESTIGATORS HAD STILL NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET INSIDE THE UNDER-CONSTRUCTION APARTMENT BUILDING THAT BURNED TO THE GROUND, SOME 15 HOURS AFTER THE BLAZE WAS CONTROLLED, SUNDAY NIGHT.

JASEN ASAY, WITH CITY FIRE, SAYS THERE ARE STILL SEVERAL HOT SPOTS... AND CREWS ARE ALSO WORKING TO DISMANTLE A CRANE -- OVER THE CONSTRUCTION SITE -- THAT GOT SO HOT IT MELTED.

HE SAYS DAMAGE WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY CONTAINED TO THE ONE STRUCTURE, NEAR 5TH EAST, ON 5TH SOUTH.

POLICE ARRESTED A MAN, 27, AT THE SCENE, WHO -- THEY SAY -- FALSELY CLAIMED TO BE A FIREFIGHTER.

BUT FIRE OFFICIALS SAY HE HAS DONE THIS AT SMALLER FIRES BEFORE... AND HE IS NOT BELIEVED TO BE A SUSPECT IN THE BLAZE.

FIRE INVESTIGATORS WEREN'T SURE WHETHER THEY'D BE ABLE TO ENTER THE DESTROYED BUILDING LATER MONDAY, OR TUESDAY.
