Salt Lake Cop Refuses to Work Gay Pride Parade

A SALT LAKE CITY POLICE OFFICER HAS BEEN PLACED ON LEAVE... AFTER REFUSING TO WORK THE GAY PRIDE PARADE.

DEPARTMENT OFFICIALS SAY THE OFFICER WAS AMONG ABOUT 30 ASSIGNED TO PROVIDE TRAFFIC CONTROL AND SECURITY FOR THE ANNUAL PARADE, DOWNTOWN.

THE DEPARTMENT SAYS IT DOES NOT TOLERATE BIAS AND BIGOTRY... AND DOES NOT ALLOW PERSONAL BELIEFS TO ENTER INTO WHETHER AN OFFICER WILL ACCEPT AN ASSIGNMENT.

THE OFFICER -- WHOSE NAME WAS NOT RELEASED -- IS ON PAID ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE, PENDING THE OUTCOME OF AN INTERNAL AFFAIRS INVESTIGATION.
