Southern Utah Polygamist Community Loses Lawsuit

AN ARIZONA JURY HAS AGREED, A POLYGAMIST SECT -- ON THE UTAH-ARIZONA BORDER -- DISCRIMINATED AGAINST A FAMILY, THAT DOESN'T BELONG TO THE CHURCH... AND HAS AWARDED THEM $5.2-MILLION.

THE PHOENIX JURY SIDED WITH PROSECUTORS, WHO SAY THE FAMILY WAS DENIED A HOUSEHOLD WATER CONNECTION FOR RELIGIOUS REASONS.

RONALD COOKE SAYS HE AND HIS FAMILY WERE DISCRIMINATED AGAINST, IN 2008, WHEN THEY RETURNED TO HIS BOYHOOD TOWN OF "SHORT CREEK" -- A COLLECTIVE NAME FOR HILDALE, UTAH... AND COLORADO CITY, ARIZONA.

LAWYERS FOR THE POLYGAMIST COMMUNITIES ARGUED, THE FAMILY WAS DENIED UTILITIES... BECAUSE THEY DID NOT FILL OUT THEIR PAPERWORK PROPERLY.

THEY ARE NOW CONSIDERING AN APPEAL OF THE JURY VERDICT.
