Utah Lawmakers Want Carbon Monoxide Monitors in All Schools

TWO STATE LAWMAKERS WANT TO ENSURE ALL UTAH SCHOOLS HAVE CARBON MONOXIDE MONITORS INSTALLED, AFTER THAT GAS LEAK -- AT A SOUTHERN UTAH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, LAST YEAR -- SICKENED MORE THAN 40 STUDENTS AND ADULTS.

THE LEAK BROUGHT ATTENTION TO THE FACT, UTAH IS AMONG MANY STATES THAT DON'T REQUIRE SCHOOLS TO HAVE THE DETECTORS.

REPRESENTATIVE LARRY WILEY, A WEST VALLEY CITY DEMOCRAT, IS SPONSORING ONE OF TWO BILLS PENDING, THAT WOULD REQUIRE ALL SCHOOLS TO INSTALL THE MONITORS.

HE'S NOW WORKING WITH SALT LAKE DEMOCRATIC SENATOR JIM DABAKIS, WHO HAS A SIMILAR PROPOSAL PENDING IN THE UTAH SENATE.
