Water Restrictions Imposed for Virgin River Users

SPURRED BY ONGOING SOUTHERN UTAH DROUGHT CONDITIONS -- THAT HAVE DRASTICALLY DROPPED VIRGIN RIVER WATER LEVELS -- MANY FARMERS AND RANCHERS WILL NO LONGER BE ALLOWED TO USE RIVER WATER.

OFFICIALS SAY, ONLY PEOPLE WITH WATER RIGHTS -- DATING BACK INTO THE 1800'S -- WILL BE ABLE TO DIVERT WATER, TO IRRIGATE CROPS... GROW PASTURES... AND PROVIDE TO CATTLE.

STATE OFFICIALS ATTRIBUTE THE ACTION TO EXTREMELY DRY CONDITIONS, OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS.

STATE ENGINEERS WILL MONITOR THE RIVER, AND MODIFY THE RULES IF STREAM FLOWS IMPROVE.
