West Valley Boy, 14, Leaps Out a Second Story Window to Escape Fire

A WEST VALLEY CITY BOY WAS RECOVERING FROM AN ANKLE INJURY FRIDAY, AFTER JUMPING FROM HIS SECOND STORY DUPLEX BEDROOM WINDOW, TO ESCAPE A FIRE.

POLICE SARGEANT STEVE BURKE SAYS THE 14-YEAR-OLD'S MOTHER WAS ABLE TO GET OUT, THROUGH THE FRONT DOOR.

BUT THE BOY WAS TRAPPED BY FLAMES, LEAVING THE LEAP AS HIS ONLY ONE WAY OUT.

THE FIRE OCCURRED NEAR 40TH SOUTH, 54TH WEST, JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT FRIDAY MORNING.

A NEIGHBOR ASSISTED THE BOY, UNTIL PARAMEDICS ARRIVED. HE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH EITHER A SPRAINED OR BROKEN ANKLE.

THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS STILL BEING INVESTIGATED.
